*** We ended the year on a high note with highly successful productions of two new SIMON STUDIO plays. We recently returned from Little Rock,Arkansas' Wildwood Theatre where we performed a successful try out run of MARGINALIA - a very exciting new play by one of our resident playwrights Richard Pellegrino. For this we were most grateful to receive funding support the Baptist Health Foundation of Arkansas. Congratulations to Jennifer Yadav, Marty Kushner, Eddie Lew, Mildred Purdy, Lora Lee Ecobelli and Michael Dijioia who were selected participants with me and to all our other studio personnel who helped develop this play in numerous Lab reading sessions in our NYC studio over the past year.

And our SIMON STUDIO is proud to have recently received two prestigious nominations for our recent Midtown International Theatre Festival production of our resident playwright Joe Healey's HIS FATHER'S SON (Best Short Play and Deborah Unger (Best Actress). Congrats to them, to Eddie Lew (director), actors Katherine Martin and Mary Bonczek and to all our studio personnel who helped develop both these winning projects and all our other new theatre and film work inour weekly Lab class sessions over the past year. I am looking forward to continuing the work with new and formerparticipants in 2013 - our 35th season in NYC!

Not to mention the exciting recent workshop reading of  Fred Bruggerman's work WAITING FOR A JOB.  We will also be continuing to develop Michael Swiskay's screenplay ORBITING EZMERELDA and work by Irwin Nayman, Colleen Arancio and Jude Albert among others.

Thursday, June 20th., 7 pm: Bard at the Bar 2013  - Roger Hendricks Simon - 212-841-0204 or 917-776- 9209 - www.SimonStudio.com - THE SIMON STUDIO @ the Historic Players Club - proudly presents its annual Bard @ the Bar in honor of William Shakespeare and THE SIMON STUDIO's 35th Anniversary! - ... - Directed by Roger Hendricks Simon(N.Y. Shakespeare Festival, Yale Rep, London's Royal Court Theatre) - Thursday, May 31st., 2012 @ 7 pm - The Players Club, 16 Gramercy Park South - - This performance is an environmental collage of scenes, songs and dance by William Shakespeare, featuring current studio Players members, alumni and special guests from the film, Broadway and London stage worlds. - - "... an impressive group of scenes, using every inch of the expansive room, as well as audience members, as part of the ambiance... a ‘60’s style street theatre environment, (where) audience members wandered in and out and photographers documented the performance. Strict homage was paid to the Bard’s language, with vivid, highly physicalized portrayals by all. Actors of all shapes, sizes and ages were encouraged to share their talents, eschewing the youth-oriented look of many recent Shakespearean productions. Director Roger Hendricks Simon is to be congratulated for his dedication to the inclusion of all types of talented actors, and the large, enthusiastic crowd obviously agreed." - Off-Off Broadway Review - - Admission: $10. donations to our John Palmore/Frank DePasquale Scholarship Fund Please RSVP at 212-841-0204 E-mail us at rhsstudio@gmail.com

Biography: (Coached/Trained/Director of:James Earl Jones, James Woods, John Lithgow, John Travolta, Samuel L. Jackson), Yale Rep, NY Shakespeare Fest, Royal Court, Simon Studio Presents: the Tennessee Williams, Festival, and Shakespeare's Bard @ The Bar Putting contemporary writers side be side with the classics, as well as actors with directors. The best training to help the artist grow is one night you're doing Pinter, or Williams, the next Shakespeare. New works loosens the language of the classics. The continual work on the classics also gives you a discipline and through that respect, it reinforces your respect in contemporary works.

Roger was a founding member at Yale Repertory Theatre in the 60's and instead of going "west" to Hollywood, which would have been commercially profitable, he went to England! At Yale, he had the extraordinary opportunity to listen to amazingly vibrant directors Stella Adler, Bobby Lewis, Jonathan Miller, to experience theatre companies like the Living Theatre, the Open Theatre, actors from the Royal Shakespeare Company, who came to perform. When he was invited to teach in London for a summer, He leapt at it and directed a play by Megan Terry called Keep Tightly Closed in a Cool Dry Place. When flags were used as bed spreads we were promptly arrested. England still had a censor in 1967. But all of a sudden Roger was invited to direct throughout Europe, principally the Royal Court Theatre (London), State Theatres in Denmark, Nancy Festival, Du Monde, at the Abbey Theatre and Edinburgh Festival. The world became much smaller. The Simon Studio is a direct result of his years directing. Actors don't have to create in a room all by themselves, directors, and writers should be there too. The Arts should be a common language, an inter-action.
