SARAH LEVINE SIMON, SOPRANO, CONDUCTOR & WRITER
Sarah Levine Simon, Soprano, has enjoyed a dual career as a musician and writer. Among her solo and recital appearances: Weil Recital Hall of Carnegie Hall, Merkin Concert Hall, Joseph Astman International Series at Hofstra University, Aspen Opera Theater, The Brooklyn Lyric Opera. She has premiered the works of many living composers including Lori Laitman and David Gagne.

In September of 2004, she sang the difficult soprano solo in Allesandro Scarlatti’s Cantata for soprano, trumpet, “Su le Sponde del Tebro” with the Poughkeepsie Festival Orchestra under Arthur Himmelberger. Her writing credits include “Bernardo’s Farewell,” a story for orchestra, starring actress Tovah Feldshuh and produced with funding from the National Endowment for the Arts, with the Manhattan Chamber Symphonia under the baton of Glen Cortese; She has had three Commissions from Plays for Living, Inc. Rule of Thumb commissioned by Plays for Living is a docudrama about domestic violence. Sample uses of play: NYPD, American Medical Association, The Commonwealth Commission, American Bar Association, NY District Attorney’s office, medical examiners offices and medical schools. Ms. Simon shares an honorable mention for film writing from Montage with novelist Kathleen Rockwell Lawrence for a screenplay entitled, “Killer.” “The Lady Shaped like a Vase,” a children’s opera story, was a finalist in Chanticleer Film’s Discovery Program. She trained her voice at Oberlin Conservatory, The Juilliard School of Music on a full scholarship; The Opera Theater of the Manhattan School of Music and privately with Uta Graf, Laurel Miller and Beatrice Krebs. She was the recipient of a Kathryn Long Grant from the Metropolitan Opera. Ms. Simon holds a BA in literature and writing from Columbia University. She has taught at Brooklyn College, Baruch, New York Institute of Technology, Mid-town YMWHA, Dutchess Community College, and has a studio of private voice students in New York City and in Poughkeepsie, NY. She currently conducts the Chancel Choir of the 1st Presbyterian Church in Poughkeepsie and is Artistic Director of The Jewish Heritage Ensemble. She is a member of The National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS), New York Singing Teachers Association (NYSTA), and Music Teacher’s National Association (MTNA). She is a devoted practitioner of Pilates and Yoga, and cooks for sport.
